About Me
I am a former New Zealand primary school teacher with a long-held passion for literacy and numeracy.
I have completed Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) training through the Institute for Multisensory Language Education (IMSLE), based in Melbourne, and am an Accredited Member of the Australian Dyslexia Association (AMADA). I have also completed training in Multisensory Mathematics (MSM), through Maths Australia, using the Concrete Representational Abstract (CRA) approach.
I work from my home in Waikanae, delivering one-to-one literacy and numeracy instruction at both primary and secondary levels.
The instruction I provide is:
- Diagnostic: tailored to meet the individual needs of each student at their pace and stage of readiness.
- Sequential and cumulative: building understanding in a logical way that lays the foundation for further learning
- Mastery-based: we "hasten slowly" as we move to new content as soon as your child has demonstrated thorough understanding of their learning to date
- Confidence building: empowering your child as a learner by teaching them in a way that they understand.
Point of difference
I am a educational specialist, rather than a tutor. I provide individualised, often remedial, intervention developed to meet my students’ specific needs.
Unlike private tuition providers, especially the franchised types, I do not use a “cookie cutter” approach. The one-to-one literacy and numeracy services I offer are evidence-based and unique. Through my diagnostic approach, I ascertain the reasons behind literacy and numeracy challenges so that I can deliver tailored instruction to meet students at their point of need.
In addition, I can liaise and communicate with classroom teachers and school leadership to work collaboratively towards supporting your child.
